This opportunity is suited to software professionals with 4 to 8 years of experience who have strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, databases, testing, and modern application development practices.

The role focuses primarily on building scalable and secure backend services for enterprise applications. You will design business logic, develop APIs, integrate applications with databases and external systems, improve application performance, and contribute to reliable cloud-ready solutions. The position also involves working closely with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps teams, product stakeholders, and other technology professionals.

This is a strong opportunity for experienced Java developers looking for software jobs in Chennai where backend engineering, microservices, cloud technologies, automation, and enterprise application development come together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain backend services using Java 8 or later and Spring-based technologies.
  • Build scalable microservices using appropriate architecture and design patterns.
  • Develop and expose RESTful APIs with clear contracts, appropriate HTTP methods, status codes, validation, and exception handling.
  • Implement reliable business logic while maintaining application security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Integrate backend applications with relational and NoSQL databases as well as external enterprise systems.
  • Apply security mechanisms using Spring Security, OAuth2, and JWT.
  • Develop unit and integration tests to improve application reliability and code quality.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and follow clean coding and software engineering standards.
  • Analyze application performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, product, and other engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Investigate production problems, identify root causes, and implement effective fixes.
  • Contribute to CI/CD processes, containerization, and cloud deployment activities.
  • Participate in technical discussions and help improve application architecture and development practices.
  • Support continuous modernization by evaluating relevant cloud, automation, and development technologies.

Required Skills

Candidates should have strong practical experience with Java 8 or later and a solid understanding of enterprise Java development. Hands-on knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data JPA is important for this position.

A strong understanding of microservices architecture is expected, including patterns such as Circuit Breaker, Retry, and API Gateway. Candidates should also understand REST API design, HTTP methods, response status codes, service integration, and distributed application concepts.

Database experience should include SQL-based systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle, along with exposure to MongoDB. Familiarity with Hibernate and JPA is required for ORM-based application development.

The role also requires knowledge of Git, Maven or Gradle, and application logging technologies such as Log4j or Logback. Experience writing unit and integration tests with JUnit and Mockito is important for maintaining production-quality applications.

Security experience with Spring Security, OAuth2, and JWT will help candidates develop secure enterprise services. Strong debugging and troubleshooting capabilities are also necessary for resolving development and production issues.

Preferred Skills

Experience with event-driven architecture and distributed tracing is beneficial. Candidates who have worked with monitoring and observability tools such as ELK, Prometheus, or Splunk can bring additional value to the role.

Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation is preferred. Experience using GitHub Copilot or other Generative AI tools for software development and problem-solving is also useful.

Additional experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions is advantageous. Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP can strengthen an application, while familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ is also a plus.
