Role Overview

Job Overview

Morgan Stanley is seeking a QD Build Engineer at Manager/Senior Manager level in Mumbai to support build, release, integration, testing, and development infrastructure for the Fixed Income Division. The role is focused on production systems used for pricing and risk modelling across fixed income trading desks, including rates, inflation, hybrids, rates options, and FX.

This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys working with large C++ codebases, build automation, developer tooling, code quality, performance analysis, and cross-platform engineering. The successful candidate will help maintain and improve the software lifecycle across millions of lines of C++, Java, and Scala code running across Linux and Windows environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance automated build, release, integration, and testing infrastructure for pricing and risk modelling libraries.
  • Support consistent builds and releases across Linux and Windows platforms and across a complex application ecosystem.
  • Manage and improve dependencies, configuration, artifacts, and build processes across large software portfolios.
  • Investigate build-time and runtime issues and help development teams resolve technical problems without disrupting ongoing engineering work.
  • Maintain Jenkins job configurations and contribute to reliable automated delivery workflows.
  • Develop shell and Python scripts for build management, artifact promotion, propagation, and related engineering tasks.
  • Support C++ code quality, static analysis, coverage, debugging, profiling, and performance monitoring activities.
  • Work with sanitizers, memory profilers, and debugging tools to identify defects and improve software reliability.
  • Contribute to architecture and coding standards, C++ modernization, dependency management, and obsolescence reduction.
  • Help establish consistent tooling and engineering practices across Fixed Income analytics libraries and their dependent applications.
  • Perform large-scale code maintenance, refactoring, dependency upgrades, and code movement while minimizing disruption to other developers.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams and coordinate technical work across multiple stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support for the development infrastructure used by pricing and risk systems.

Required Skills

Strong modern C++ experience is essential, with C++17 preferred and at least C++11 experience required. The focus is on maintaining and improving large production codebases rather than only developing greenfield applications. Candidates should be comfortable handling broad code changes, refactoring, dependency upgrades, and routine maintenance in complex environments.

Experience with C++ build systems is required. Relevant tools include Bazel, CMake, Premake, make, and Visual Studio/MSBuild. Familiarity with build acceleration technologies such as BuildBuddy, IncrediBuild, distcc, or ccache is also valuable.

Candidates should have practical build engineering experience across Linux and Windows, including dependency management and troubleshooting build and runtime failures. Jenkins configuration management is an important part of the role.

Strong scripting capability using Python and shell is required for automating build processes, artifact management, and engineering workflows.

Preferred Skills

Experience with fixed income derivatives is desirable, particularly for professionals who have worked closely with front-office teams or quantitative developers. Familiarity with pricing and risk systems can help candidates understand the importance of reliable build and release processes in financial markets.

Experience supporting globally distributed teams and coordinating across multiple technical and business stakeholders is strongly relevant. Experience with AI-assisted development and its use across the software development lifecycle is also expected.

Education

The supplied job description does not specify a formal degree requirement. Candidates should therefore focus on demonstrating relevant professional experience, build engineering expertise, and applicable technical and financial-domain knowledge.

Experience

The supplied posting does not state a numeric experience range. The Manager/Senior Manager level and technical requirements indicate that this is an experienced engineering opportunity, particularly suited to professionals with substantial large-scale C++ build and infrastructure experience.

Required Technologies

  • C++
  • C++11
  • C++17
  • Java
  • Scala
  • Python
  • Shell scripting
  • Linux
  • Windows
  • Jenkins
  • Bazel
  • CMake
  • Premake
  • make
  • Visual Studio

  • cpplint
  • cppcheck
  • clang-tidy
  • Valgrind
  • C++ sanitizers
  • Memory profilers
  • Code coverage tooling
  • Static code analysis
  • AI-assisted development

Soft Skills

The role requires strong ownership, technical problem-solving, and communication skills. Because the engineering environment is globally distributed and supports high-impact financial systems, candidates should be able to coordinate effectively with developers, quantitative teams, technology stakeholders, and other partners.

Attention to detail is important when working with build configurations, dependencies, testing infrastructure, and release processes. The ability to investigate complex issues systematically, explain technical findings clearly, and improve engineering processes will be valuable.

Benefits of Working in this Role

This position provides exposure to large-scale financial technology systems that support pricing and risk management for the Fixed Income business. Engineers can work with substantial C++ codebases, sophisticated build infrastructure, cross-platform development environments, automated testing, performance tooling, and software quality practices.

The role also offers an opportunity to deepen expertise in developer productivity, build and release engineering, production software maintenance, and quantitative technology environments.

Work Mode

The job listing identifies the position as full time and lists Mumbai, Maharashtra, India as the location. The supplied posting does not explicitly specify a remote or hybrid work arrangement.

Location

This opportunity is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, within Morgan Stanley's Fixed Income Division.

Who Should Apply

This role is suitable for experienced Build Engineers, C++ Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Developer Productivity Engineers, Software Infrastructure Engineers, and professionals working with large-scale C++ development environments.

Candidates should be particularly interested in this opportunity if they have experience with C++ build systems, Jenkins, Linux and Windows development, Python or shell automation, dependency management, static and dynamic code analysis, and production software maintenance.

Professionals with financial services, fixed income derivatives, quantitative development, pricing, or risk technology experience may have an additional advantage based on the preferred requirements.

Career Growth

The position can help experienced engineers strengthen expertise in build and release engineering, software infrastructure, C++ modernization, automated testing, code quality, performance engineering, and developer tooling. Working with critical pricing and risk systems can also broaden experience in financial technology and production engineering.

Application Advice

Emphasize hands-on experience supporting large C++ codebases rather than focusing only on application development. Highlight specific build tools you have used, such as CMake, Bazel, Premake, make, or MSBuild, along with Jenkins configuration and build automation.

Clearly mention experience with Linux and Windows, dependency management, Python and shell scripting, artifact handling, static analysis, code coverage, sanitizers, Valgrind, profiling, and debugging. If you have worked on C++ modernization, large-scale refactoring, or build acceleration, include those examples.

Candidates with fixed income derivatives or front-office quant development exposure should make that experience visible. Also describe how you have worked with distributed teams and used AI-assisted development tools within the software development lifecycle.
