Role Overview

Job Overview

Microsoft is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Windows Servicing and Delivery organization in Hyderabad, Telangana. This is a full-time Individual Contributor position with a work model requiring four days per week in the office. The role is part of the Trusted Servicing Experiences team, which works on improving the security, reliability, compatibility, and servicing experience of the Windows platform.

The engineer will contribute to Windows system-level software by fixing security vulnerabilities, investigating complex driver and platform issues, improving performance, and developing updates for new Windows capabilities. The work can affect a broad Windows ecosystem that includes PCs, servers, Surface Hub, HoloLens, Azure-connected experiences, and other supported devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve security vulnerabilities, including related variants that may affect Windows customers.
  • Analyze driver issues involving system crashes, performance, reliability, and compatibility.
  • Develop high-quality fixes while carefully considering application compatibility and platform stability.
  • Implement Windows enhancements and updates that support new technologies, features, and device scenarios.
  • Debug complex system-level problems across unfamiliar and large codebases.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintainable, reliable, and standards-compliant software.
  • Work with escalation engineers and partner teams to investigate problems, develop solutions, test changes, and deliver updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, tools, and product quality over the long term.
  • Mentor other engineers and share technical knowledge with the team.

Required Skills

This position requires strong software engineering fundamentals and practical experience with system-level development. Candidates should be comfortable programming in C or C++ and understanding how software behaves across kernel-mode and user-mode environments. Experience with other programming languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python is also recognized in the requirements.

Strong debugging and problem-solving ability is essential. The role involves analyzing multi-threaded and highly scalable applications, understanding unfamiliar source code, identifying root causes, and creating reliable fixes. Candidates should also understand Windows system-level programming and have practical familiarity with Windows debugging.

Quality is an important part of the role. Engineers are expected to consider application compatibility, maintainability, reliability, and security when developing changes rather than focusing only on short-term defect resolution.

Preferred Skills

Experience with WinDbg and crash dump analysis is an advantage. Knowledge of Windows platform technologies such as WinAppSDK, WinUI, XAML, and MSI can further strengthen a candidate's fit.

Additional value comes from understanding Windows internals, application lifecycle concepts, and deployment technologies. Experience with cloud-connected Windows experiences or client-server architectures is also useful for this position.

Education

A BS degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification is preferred according to the job posting. The role places significant emphasis on technical engineering experience, system-level programming, debugging, and software development capability.

Experience

Applicants should have at least 8 years of technical engineering experience involving coding. The posting does not specify a maximum experience level. Relevant experience should demonstrate strong software development, debugging, design, and problem-solving capabilities, particularly around Windows system programming.

Required Technologies

Key technologies and technical areas associated with this position include:

  • C
  • C++
  • Windows system-level programming
  • Kernel-mode development
  • User-mode development
  • Windows debugging
  • Multi-threaded applications
  • Windows platform technologies

The posting also identifies C#, Java, JavaScript, and Python as coding languages that may be part of the candidate's engineering background.

Soft Skills

Clear written and verbal communication is important because the engineer will work with colleagues and partner teams across a global organization. The ability to collaborate effectively, discuss technical issues, participate in code reviews, and coordinate debugging and delivery activities is essential.

The role also requires a strong quality mindset, ownership, structured problem solving, and the ability to work productively in a diverse, team-focused environment. Mentoring ability is valuable because the position includes helping other engineers develop their technical capabilities.

Benefits of Working in this Role

This role offers the opportunity to work on software that directly contributes to the security, reliability, and servicing of the Windows ecosystem. Engineers can gain exposure to challenging operating-system problems, system-level debugging, security fixes, compatibility engineering, and large-scale software delivery.

The position also provides opportunities to collaborate with escalation engineers and teams across Microsoft while contributing to improvements in products, engineering tools, and development processes.

Work Mode

The job posting specifies a hybrid-style schedule requiring four days per week in the office. Travel is listed as less than 25%.

Location

The position is based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is aimed at experienced software engineers with at least 8 years of technical engineering experience who enjoy operating-system development, Windows internals, debugging, security, and complex software problems.

It is particularly relevant for professionals with strong C or C++ skills and experience in kernel-mode or user-mode development. Engineers who have worked on Windows system programming, device or driver-related troubleshooting, multi-threaded applications, crash analysis, or large-scale software systems should consider this opportunity.

Career Growth

The position can help experienced engineers deepen their expertise in Windows internals, system-level programming, security, debugging, reliability, and platform engineering. Working with cross-functional and global engineering teams can also strengthen technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and collaboration skills.

Application Advice

Tailor your resume around your strongest system-level engineering experience. Clearly highlight your years of coding experience, C and C++ expertise, Windows development, kernel-mode and user-mode work, debugging, multi-threading, and experience resolving complex software defects.

If you have worked with WinDbg, crash dumps, WinAppSDK, WinUI, XAML, MSI, Windows internals, deployment technologies, or cloud-connected Windows applications, make those skills easy to find. Include examples that demonstrate how you diagnosed difficult issues, improved reliability, protected systems, or delivered safe fixes.

Also emphasize communication, teamwork, code review participation, mentoring, and collaboration with distributed engineering groups. Avoid listing technologies without context; explain how you used them in real projects where possible.
