Citi is hiring a Senior Java Software Engineer for a Vice President-level Applications Development Technology Lead Analyst position in Pune, Maharashtra. This is a full-time hybrid opportunity for an experienced software professional with 11 or more years of Java development experience.

The role focuses on XiNG, Citi’s large-scale distributed calculation platform, including the XiP calculation engine. The platform performs high-volume risk and suitability calculations and operates across a large distributed computing environment. The engineer will help evolve the platform so it can process increasingly demanding workloads while maintaining performance, reliability, scalability, and security.

This opportunity is suited to a senior engineer who enjoys distributed systems, performance optimization, large-scale application development, and solving complex engineering problems. You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps teams, stakeholders, and customers while contributing to the long-term technical direction of the platform.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based components for the large-scale calculation platform.
  • Contribute to the long-term technical evolution of the XiP platform and help prepare it for future scale requirements.
  • Improve calculation engine performance, resource utilization, scalability, and throughput.
  • Analyze distribution and parallelization mechanisms and identify opportunities to improve execution efficiency.
  • Design and implement enhancements without creating unacceptable performance impacts across high-volume workloads.
  • Work on complex distributed computing challenges involving data movement, workload coordination, and large numbers of machines.
  • Plan and coordinate technical changes required to achieve future scaling milestones.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure platform improvements remain aligned with customer and business requirements.
  • Participate in Agile and Scrum ceremonies, technical discussions, design activities, and engineering reviews.
  • Share technical knowledge with peers and contribute to collaborative problem solving.
  • Work with DevOps and engineering teams to support reliable, secure, and scalable platform operations.
  • Apply appropriate software development, testing, and engineering practices throughout the application lifecycle.


Required Skills

Strong professional experience with Java is essential. Candidates should have at least 11 years of software development experience and a strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design patterns.

Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, or Quarkus is required as part of the technical background. The role also calls for hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.

Knowledge of RESTful API design and implementation is important. Candidates should understand how scalable services communicate and how APIs can be designed for reliable enterprise applications.
