Citi is hiring a Lead Java, Sprint Boot Developer – Assistant Vice President for its technology organization in Pune or Chennai. This is a full-time, on-site software engineering role for an experienced professional who can design, develop, test, review, and support enterprise applications. The position combines hands-on Java development with technical leadership, application analysis, software quality, security, and collaboration across distributed engineering teams.

The role is focused on building reliable business applications using Java and the Spring ecosystem while contributing to application modernization, microservices, containerized deployments, testing, and continuous delivery. The successful candidate will work with onshore, offshore, and matrix teams, act as a subject matter expert for stakeholders, and help less experienced engineers improve their technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable application components using Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot with limited day-to-day supervision.
• Build and maintain enterprise application features while following established coding standards, modular design practices, and software engineering principles.
• Develop automated tests and support unit, integration, and performance testing to improve application reliability.
• Participate in peer code reviews and provide practical feedback on implementation quality, maintainability, security, and performance.
• Analyze application behavior, troubleshoot defects, investigate vulnerabilities, and implement suitable technical solutions.
• Work with distributed development teams to translate business requirements into practical software solutions.
• Support application enhancements by reviewing existing systems, identifying technical improvements, and evaluating new development tools, libraries, and approaches.
• Produce clear technical and user-support documentation for applications and delivered solutions.
• Contribute to architecture and development activities involving REST services, SOA, microservices, containers, and cloud-ready applications.
• Support application deployment using Kubernetes and Docker and contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
• Participate in Agile software development activities and contribute to modern engineering practices such as DevOps, Behavior Driven Development, and Extreme Programming where applicable.
• Act as a technical advisor or coach for junior analysts and developers and provide subject matter expertise to senior stakeholders.
• Assess technology and operational risks appropriately while following security, compliance, and governance expectations.

Required Skills

Strong hands-on Java development experience is essential. Candidates should have deep knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Web, and Spring Data.

A strong understanding of core Java concepts is expected, including threading, collections, exception handling, JDBC, object-oriented programming, object-oriented design, GoF design patterns, file input/output, and data parsing. Experience working with XML, JSON, delimited files, fixed-length files, string processing, binary data, byte arrays, and related application data formats is also relevant.

Candidates should understand SQL, with DB2 or Oracle experience preferred. Experience building applications around REST services, SOA, and microservices is important for this position.
