Role Overview

Job Overview

Airbus is hiring a Software Engineer for its Cabin Management team in the Bangalore area. The role focuses on developing, integrating, testing, and maintaining software products used in aircraft cabin management and connectivity solutions. The position is part of an international engineering environment where software quality, safety, reliability, and customer requirements are important.

The engineer will work across the software development lifecycle, from defining requirements and creating designs to implementation, testing, integration, configuration, release management, and lifecycle documentation. The role is particularly suited to experienced embedded software professionals who have worked with C, real-time operating systems, hardware-related software components, and drivers.

You will collaborate with engineering teams in India and Germany and contribute to software solutions designed to support safe, secure, efficient aircraft operations while improving crew and passenger comfort. The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement within an Agile engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define software requirements and technical designs based on system-level specifications.
  • Design and develop software components for cabin management solutions.
  • Implement embedded software using C for bare-machine or real-time operating system environments.
  • Integrate software components with hardware-related systems and interfaces.
  • Develop and execute software test cases and procedures for different verification levels.
  • Support high-level testing and low-level testing activities.
  • Create and maintain software lifecycle documentation.
  • Manage software configuration and release activities for development artefacts.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues during development and integration.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of software engineering processes and team practices.
  • Work as part of an Agile development team and participate in regular engineering activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Airbus locations, including teams in Buxtehude and Hamburg.
  • Support cross-site engineering collaboration and travel when required.
  • Maintain awareness of compliance requirements and contribute to responsible engineering practices.

Required Skills

Strong embedded software development experience is central to this position. Candidates should have practical experience using C for bare-machine systems or real-time operating systems and should understand how software interacts with hardware.

Experience with hardware-related software components and drivers is important. Knowledge of interfaces such as CAN is relevant because the role involves cabin electronics and embedded systems.

The position also requires experience across software development and integration rather than coding alone. Candidates should understand requirements, design, implementation, testing, integration, configuration, release management, and documentation activities.

Experience working within Agile development environments and familiarity with DevOps practices are also expected. Strong English communication skills are required for collaboration with international engineering teams.

Preferred Skills

Experience with model-based software development tools such as SCADE is preferred. Familiarity with modeling languages including UML and SysML can also be beneficial.

Experience with engineering tools such as Jira, GitHub, and Jenkins is useful for Agile development, source control, automation, and continuous integration activities.

Knowledge of the DO-178B or DO-178C software lifecycle and safety-critical software development is highly relevant. Candidates with previous experience in regulated, safety-focused, embedded software environments should highlight that experience.

Education

A university degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable discipline is required.

Experience

The role requires approximately 8 to 11 years of experience in software development and integration. Candidates should demonstrate substantial hands-on experience with embedded software, preferably involving C, real-time systems, hardware interfaces, and software components that interact closely with electronic systems.

Experience covering multiple stages of the software lifecycle is valuable, including requirements definition, design, coding, testing, integration, documentation, configuration, and release management.

Required Technologies

Core technical areas include embedded C, real-time operating systems, bare-machine development, hardware-related software, device drivers, and CAN interfaces.

Additional technologies and engineering tools mentioned for the role include SCADE, UML, SysML, Jira, GitHub, Jenkins, Agile, DevOps, DO-178B, and DO-178C.

Soft Skills

Strong communication skills are important because the position involves regular collaboration with international colleagues and engineering teams across multiple locations.

Candidates should be comfortable working in an Agile environment, contributing ideas for process improvement, and taking ownership of software engineering activities. Attention to detail is particularly important when working with software that supports aircraft systems.

A responsible approach to compliance, quality, safety, and engineering integrity is also essential. The ability to work collaboratively across cultures and technical disciplines will help engineers succeed in this role.

Benefits of Working in this Role

This position provides experienced engineers with the opportunity to work on aircraft cabin management and connectivity software. The role offers exposure to embedded systems, real-time software, hardware interfaces, safety-critical development practices, testing, integration, and software lifecycle management.

Working with engineering teams across India and Germany can also provide broader experience in international software development and cross-site technical collaboration.

Work Mode

The job description does not specify a remote or hybrid work arrangement. The source posting identifies the position as full time and based in the Bangalore Area.

Location

Bangalore Area, Karnataka, India.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to experienced embedded software engineers with 8 to 11 years of development and integration experience. Candidates with strong C programming skills and experience with real-time operating systems, bare-machine development, hardware-related software, or device drivers should consider applying.

Professionals with CAN experience, model-based development knowledge, Agile and DevOps exposure, or safety-critical software experience can highlight these areas prominently on their resumes.

Engineers who have worked with SCADE, UML, SysML, Jira, GitHub, Jenkins, or DO-178B/C should clearly describe their practical involvement with these technologies and processes.

Career Growth

Experience in cabin management software can support future career paths in embedded software engineering, avionics software, real-time systems, safety-critical software, systems integration, software architecture, verification and validation, and technical leadership.

The combination of software development, hardware integration, testing, release management, and international collaboration can also help engineers develop broader systems engineering and technical leadership capabilities.

Application Advice

Highlight your 8 to 11 years of embedded software development and integration experience. Clearly describe your work with C, real-time operating systems, bare-machine environments, hardware interfaces, and drivers.

Include examples of software requirements, design, implementation, testing, integration, configuration management, and release activities. If you have worked with CAN or other hardware communication interfaces, explain how you used them in real projects.

Candidates with SCADE, UML, SysML, Jira, GitHub, Jenkins, Agile, or DevOps experience should include those skills in relevant project descriptions. If you have experience with DO-178B/C or safety-critical software, explain the lifecycle activities and responsibilities you handled.

Because this is an international engineering role, demonstrate strong English communication and experience working with distributed teams. Keep your application focused on measurable technical contributions and relevant embedded software expertise.
