Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture for the InDesign API and InDesign Server platform, including job orchestration, rendering workflows, fleet management, and shared engineering abstractions.
- Lead technical strategy for moving InDesign Server customers and partners to the API platform while addressing capability, performance, debugging, logging, and infrastructure requirements.
- Design, build, and consume RESTful APIs and web services for reliable internal and external integrations.
- Develop enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, or comparable enterprise frameworks.
- Define engineering approaches for high-volume and bursty workloads with strong availability, reliability, observability, and performance.
- Establish clear and scalable API contracts with appropriate versioning and consistent endpoint behavior.
- Design asynchronous processing patterns covering orchestration, progress reporting, cancellation, retries, partial failures, and graceful degradation.
- Guide InDesign Server fleet strategy, including capacity planning, horizontal scaling, multi-region deployment, fault isolation, and cost-versus-performance decisions.
- Lead high-impact technical initiatives from ambiguous problem definition through implementation, rollout, production validation, and iteration.
- Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance to engineers across experience levels.
- Create technical designs, operational runbooks, and procedures that improve maintainability and operational readiness.
- Work with product managers, designers, platform engineers, and other stakeholders to align roadmaps, scope, trade-offs, and enterprise platform requirements.
- Mentor senior and junior engineers while raising engineering standards around ownership, execution, and technical quality.
- Use AI coding assistants and agentic development tools to improve engineering productivity and delivery.
Required Skills
Candidates should have substantial experience designing and operating enterprise-scale platforms. Strong expertise in at least one enterprise development framework, particularly Spring or Spring Boot with Java, is expected.
The role requires practical cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including knowledge of compute, storage, networking, and managed cloud services. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is important for containerized application deployment and orchestration.
A strong understanding of distributed application architecture is required.
