Job Overview

WEX is hiring a Software Development Engineer 1 for its Benefits Technology team in Bangalore. The role focuses on building and maintaining high-quality software and automated test solutions for employer benefits technology. The engineer will work with peers and senior team members to design, implement, test, and improve software solutions while developing engineering skills and applying established team practices.

The position includes a strong focus on Test Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, REST APIs, software quality, and the use of AI-powered development tools. The role also provides opportunities to work with modern cloud, infrastructure, architecture, data, frontend, and DevOps technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with engineering peers to complete assigned tasks and deliver valuable software solutions for customers.
• Design, code, test, and instrument new solutions while applying team processes and engineering best practices.
• Monitor, measure, and inspect operational and quality metrics and identify opportunities to improve service performance and system health.
• Analyze existing systems and processes to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
• Support engineering team members during technical deep dives and rapid incident response activities.
• Learn new technologies and share findings with the team to support technology adoption and continuous learning.
• Apply TDD, BDD, Microservice and Vertical Slice Architecture practices as part of the engineering process.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks and test suites to improve regression coverage, reliability, and testing efficiency.
• Analyze automated test results, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve defects and test automation issues.
• Expand automated test coverage for new and existing functionality across UI, API, and integration testing.
• Use AI-powered development tools such as code completion and refactoring assistance to improve coding efficiency and maintain software quality.

Required Skills

• C# programming experience or strong understanding.
• Python knowledge where applicable.
• Understanding of automated testing and test automation practices.
• Applied understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and software design principles.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Familiarity with version control and CI/CD practices.

Education and Experience

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience. The role requires at least 3 months of work experience in software engineering.

This is a full-time position based at the WEX India Bangalore Office. The stated work timing follows the U.S. Eastern Time Zone (ET).
